Broadband and mobile

Struggling to get a digital connection?

Our campaign Broadband Rural Britain started in 2002 and has been instrumental in placing rural broadband firmly on the political agenda of successive governments.

In November 2015, the Government made two important announcements that vindicated the campaign: firstly, the implementation of a Universal Service Obligation (USO) of 10Mbps by 2020; and secondly, the introduction of a rural broadband satellite voucher scheme in order to meet the objective of the Universal Service Commitment of at least 2Mbps at the beginning of 2016.

The planned introduction of a USO will seek to ensure that all rural areas in the UK will have access to a broadband connection with a speed of at least 10Mbps (download). There will be legal guarantees to ensure that where this speed is not met, compensation will be made available.

WHAT ARE THE  PLANS FOR SUPERFAST IN MY AREA?

Check to see if you’re in a BDUK/BT/Local authority superfast initiative area, and find out when your exchange might be upgraded. The links below are for the local authority broadband websites, and the relevant basic broadband voucher scheme where available.
