8.30am – 2.30pm
Meeting point: The Welldiggers Arms, Low Heath, Petworth, GU28 0HG - for a light breakfast before continuing to Leconfield Estate.
Come and join us at Leconfield Estate where we will visit the woodland estate, discuss the work carried out by the estate team and their woodland manager Neil Humphries and see demonstrations of equipment and techniques. Centred around Petworth in West Sussex, covering 14,000 acres, Leconfield includes some of the most beautiful countryside the Downs has to offer. It supports both commercial countryside sports and recreational activities, whilst being a home to many who commute and those who work locally. The estate is the home of Lord Egremont and his family.
During the morning we will be looking at harvesting techniques that deliver woodland management objectives, of access, improved sporting and wildlife habitats with diversity. We will also be discussing the potential of working broadleaved woodlands where hitherto unmarketable material can now be thinned and be cost neutral or better supported by a new biomass market opening in Kent.
The day will include a light breakfast upon arrival and will conclude with lunch, both at the Welldigger’s Arms.
