The CLA, which represents landowners, farmers and rural businesses, has welcomed an announcement from Government that could increase the generation of solar energy from non-domestic building rooftops.
From April 15, permitted development rights (PDR) will allow solar installations of up to 1MW on the roofs of non-domestic buildings. Previously the PDR was only available for projects of up to 50KW.
CLA President Henry Robinson said: “We have been calling for some time for this important extension of the permitted development right for non-domestic rooftop solar installations. It will enable the UK to take greater advantage of the considerable potential to generate renewable energy using the roofs of agricultural and other commercial buildings.
“By removing the need for full planning permission, Government has removed unnecessary red tape for those wishing to support renewable energy and diversify their farm business.”
