‘More clarity needed’ on rural broadband funds, says CLA

25 February 2014

The CLA today (25 February 2014) said more clarity is needed on an announcement by the Government of £250million for superfast broadband.

CLA President Henry Robinson said: “On the face of it, the Government’s announcement today is good news. However, it is unclear whether the £250million is part of the £300million for superfast broadband already announced by the Government. If this is the case, what has happened to the other £50million?

“The other point is there are still many rural communities that do not enjoy adequate broadband connections of two megabits per second. It remains to be seen if this pot of money will solve the broadband issue for all these areas.”
