CLA statement on buzzards decision

15 October 2013

In response to Defra's decision to shelve research into predation of pheasant poults by buzzards, CLA President Harry Cotterell said: "It is vital a new research project is started as soon as possible. Shooting makes a major contribution to the rural economy and the natural environment with two million hectares actively managed for conservation.

"An over-population of buzzards is proving a major issue for shoot owners and managers and we are pleased the Minister has committed to new proposals to examine the whole relationship between predators and other wildlife with a view to resolving this problem."
