Order for the Isle of Wight under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009

CLA has reiterated to government its opposition to including the Isle of Wight within the coastal access provisions of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009.  The Island already has excellent coastal access and most of the areas which are currently inaccessible would remain so either because they are private properties, or dangerous MoD land, or because they are areas of outstanding wildlife importance.  The government has previously suggested that voluntary agreements should be used to improve access where this is possible and CLA would support this.  However, there has been insufficient time to explore this option since the outcome of the government's previous consultation on this matter and consequently we feel this further consultation is premature.
