GN26-22 Residential Tenancies -Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms (England Only)

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 have recently been amended so – from 1 October 2022 - in addition to the duty to fit a smoke alarm on each floor of let residential premises, all landlords must now also ensure a carbon monoxide alarm is provided in rooms which contain a fixed combustion appliance. So properties with gas and oil-fired boilers will now need to have one.

In addition to the existing need to check these alarms are working on the day a new tenancy starts, all landlords must also now ensure they are repaired or replaced if alarms are found to be faulty.
