BN12-22 Results of the CLA 2022 survey on Agricultural Tenancies and Environmental scheme (England only)

During June and July we ran a survey of CLA members on how they were going to deal with environmental schemes (both government and commercial schemes) on tenanted land to inform our policy in this area. We were pleased to capture data on landlords engagement over 5,275 tenancies. It was good to see that over 73% of landlords in the survey had already engaged with their tenants despite there being little detail on the Defra Local Nature Recovery and Landscape Recovery schemes. Landowners said that they would amend tenancies or grant longer tenancies so that their tenants could enter a scheme, and many landlords would like to enter collaborative schemes with their tenants. The average length of an FBT in the survey was 8 years and most landlords would let the agreement roll on, grant a new agreement to the same tenant or relet the land. Thank you to everyone that completed the survey and helped us to capture this valuable detail.
