The 2025 Farm Business Updates were a great success with seven well attended events held throughout the region concluding in Lavenham to a packed-out venue.
This year delegates were treated to a range of thought provoking and informative presentations by the current cohort of Nuffield Farming Scholars – thanks to Tom Young, Vicky Robinson, Chris Taylor, Alastair Trickett, Lucy MacLennan, and Peter Craven.
Representatives from FWAG brought attendees up to speed with the latest on the Sustainable Farming Incentive and how best to capitalise on the range of actions available under the new expanded offer.
Andrew Marriott and Eleanor Willats from the CLA East advisory team also discussed important areas of rural and farming policy under the new government. Special thanks to Essex committee member Simon Dixon-Smith for standing in at the Writtle event and delivering this presentation in Andrew and Eleanor’s absence.
Richard Wordsworth from the NFU delivered a comprehensive overview of the agricultural transition and the wider funding landscape available via Defra. Event sponsors Anglian Water, Essex and Suffolk Water, and Affinity Water outlined the previous year’s challenges, pressures, and successes for water quality and quantity in their respective catchments.
