Farming Rules for Water
An update from the CLA on this important issue for members in the EastThe CLA continues to work on your behalf on Farming Rules for Water which are seriously impacting many of our members across the East.
Since the update from CLA Land Use Adviser Cameron Hughes, we have been discussing issues with the Environment Agency (EA) and DEFRA and working with an industry group in an attempt to find a long term solution. We recently wrote to the Minister to highlight the conflict in policy to what farmers and DEFRA are trying to achieve on soil health, soil carbon, improve air quality and to lower ammonia emissions and are awaiting a response.
In the meantime, we are continuing to collect case studies of the problems the rules are causing to members. Please do contact us if you are happy to provide details of how the rules impact your business, which we can add to many other case studies we have from members. Please note these will be anonymised when discussing with government, DEFRA and the EA.
We encourage you to write to your MP regarding your concerns. A template letter is below if you wish to use this as a way to contact your MP.
If you would like any further details please contact Rachel Brooks or Cameron Hughes or call the CLA East office on 01638 590 429.
