Nottinghamshire & Nottingham Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS)

An update from Catherine Mayhew, Local Nature Recovery Strategy Coordinator at Nottingham County Council, on the progress of their LNRS

Work is continuing on the preparation of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for Nottinghamshire and Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire County Council as the Responsible Authority has been speaking to a wide variety of people and organisations over the last few months in order to develop the draft strategy, so that it will be representative of Nottinghamshire habitats and species and will ensure the best chances for the natural environment and wildlife to improve and flourish.

Farmers and landowners are an important sector for us to speak to. We will be taking an LNRS stand at the North Notts and Southwell Ploughing Matches in September, so if you plan to attend these events please come along and talk to the LNRS team.

We are also going to be holding a special evening event for farmers and landowners on Tuesday 15th October. As well as invited speakers on other key topics, you will be able to find out more about the LNRS, share your views about priorities for nature, and tell us about any proposed nature schemes on your land. The venue is to be confirmed and we will publicise this via CLA channels, and via our LNRS webpage on the County Council website https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/local-nature-recovery-strategy

Once we have prepared the draft LNRS it will go out to a formal 6-week public consultation, scheduled for January 2025, when you will have a further chance to comment on the proposals. The final LNRS will be published in summer 2025, It will be reviewed after around 5 years.
