CLA members Andy and Lynda Eadon have been named the 2023 Farmers Weekly Farming Champion of the Year, as a result of their dedication to raising awareness of mental health in the countryside following the loss of their son Len, to suicide in 2022.

Their fundraising efforts have raised an incredible amount of money for their chosen three charities; Farming Community Network, Farm Safety Foundation (also known as Yellow Wellies UK) and Papyrus – the national charity for the prevention of young suicides.

Their campaign, Len’s Light, involved driving a tractor from John O’Groats to Lands End stopping at agricultural shows and the Houses of Parliament really putting the spotlight on mental health issues in rural communities and spreading the message that no one should feel alone.

They also created a Five a Day challenge card which involved wallet-sized cards that were printed with advice on dealing with mental wellbeing. Over 18,000 of these have been distributed.

This accolade is not the first they have received for their work in this sector. Andy and Lynda recently received the Points of Light Award from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Congratulations from the CLA Midlands team!
