Last week saw CLA President Mark Tufnell, spending time in the Midlands region visiting and engaging with members, along with Midlands Regional Director Sophie Dwerryhouse.

It was really interesting to be out on the ground with Mark, visiting members and learning more about their farms and businesses. Whilst we heard about the difficulties faced by landowners such as gaining planning permission, there were also many positive examples of diversification which is creating jobs within rural communities

They met with CLA Committee Chairs at the beautiful Packington Estate near Coventry where they had a tour of the estate and learned about their ongoing projects including Regenerative Agriculture, re-wilding and the Arden Cross Interchange.

Next stop was at the Swynnerton Estate in Staffordshire where Midlands Rural Surveyor John Greenshields joined Mark and Sophie for discussions about issues such as HS2, EPCs and rural planning.

From here Mark then visited the Tissington Estate in the Peak District National Park, where he spent the evening with Derbyshire members and enjoyed a tour the following morning before heading back home.
