The Midlands Country Land and Business Association (CLA) team are meeting with a variety of MPs and Prospective Parliamentary Candidates across the region, discussing challenges and opportunities that members are facing in rural communities.

Most recently, members from the Stratford on Avon constituency met with the Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP. A wide range of topics were discussed including the loss of 10% of small abattoirs a year which is affecting journey times and animal welfare, to tackling rural crime which members around the table praised the Warwickshire Rural Crime team for being responsive and engaging.

The rural communities within Stratford on Avon are at the heart of the area, and businesses within these contribute a huge amount to the local economy providing jobs, housing and much more. Thank you to the Country Land and Business Association for setting up this meeting with their members. We had a robust discussion around the subjects of food security, how to tackle rural crime and affordable housing

The CLA is the membership organisation for landowners, property and businesses in rural England and Wales. Together, our members own and manage around half the rural land. This land supports a wide variety of businesses including agriculture, forestry, tourism, hospitality, retail, commercial and residential lettings.

You can view the CLA’s Rural Powerhouse campaign and our six missions here. These are designed to help political parties understand what policies are necessary to unlock the potential of the rural economy.
