Getting out and about in the field
CLA members were lucky to enjoy a rare warm and dry day this summer as they visited the Burrough Court Estate in Leicestershire for a Farm Walk and TalkGenerously hosted by Dawn and Becky Wilson, and supported by Knight Frank, a wide range of topics were discussed from planning opportunities and new planning rules to sustainable farming and biodiversity net gain.
Joined by Midlands Rural Adviser, Helen Dale, it proved a great chance to talk to members and non-members in the field and discover some of the challenges they are facing in delivering Countryside Stewardship (CS) and Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) options across the farm, especially after a period of especially difficult farming months due to changeable weather amongst other things. There was also some good discussion about balancing public and private finance with plenty of interest, but some caution when it came to private schemes.
Becky Wilson commented “During the latest CLA Midlands Farm Walk and Talk, the Burrough Court farm was used as a case study to drive conversation in three different areas, which presented a really interesting walk with lots of discussion between the attendees.”
