Nothing could dampen our spirits

A fabulous drinks reception at the home of ‘Atonement’
Stokesay Court 1

Many who attended the Stokesay Court ‘summer’ drinks reception may have been mistaken by the name of the event. As guests started to arrive the heavens opened, but luckily they were welcomed into the warm, grand setting of the double height, oak clad Great Hall at Stokesay Court.

A late Victorian house and family home set within extensive grounds in the rolling Shropshire countryside, attendees were greeted by owner and host, Caroline Magnus.

Whilst drinks and canapes were being served, Caroline spoke about the history of Stokesay Court, including how the venue rose to fame as the setting for the Tallis House in the film ‘Atonement’ starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.

Behind-the-scenes tours of the Great Hall, drawing room, dining room and library then took place with fond anecdotes of the filming, history and house restoration being shared.

It was a truly wonderful evening in the most special setting. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing some of our regular members, but also meeting many new ones and updating them on the work the CLA is carrying out on their behalf. Thank you to Caroline for hosting us and Perdix Partnership Property Consultants for supporting the evening.

With the rain ceasing, guests left the drinks reception, umbrellas tucked under arm, and were able to explore the grounds with many noting the fountain which was a prominent feature in the film.
