Political Engagement
Find out what the team are doing in your area with a general election on the horizonWith a General Election on the cards, the Midlands team have been busy increasing their political engagement activities.
Back in September, the team hosted a round table with the Conservative MP for Ludlow, the Rt Hon Phillip Dunne MP and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for South Shropshire, Stuart Anderson who is currently the MP for Wolverhampton South West, at CLA members Plowden Estate.
This round table covered a full agenda of topics from rural connectivity and planning, through to the agricultural transition.
Since then, we arranged for Mr Anderson to spend the day at Bishops Castle Cattle Market meeting CLA members in the constituency.
More recently we attended a sell-out event in Clun set up by the Conservative Rural Forum Chair, Lizzie Hacking.
The forum was pleased to have the Minister for Food, Farming and Fisheries, the Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP on the panel together with Stuart Anderson and the Rt Hon Craig Williams MP, who were asked questions on a variety of topics.
The main questions being around Environmental Land Management schemes providing profitable and sustainable farming, water quality, planning, import and export challenges and delivering economic growth for rural areas to name but a few.
What a great event, giving members of the local rural communities the opportunity to put their questions and comments across to MP’s and have their voices heard, as well as get answers to some pressing questions
We are currently working on meeting MP’s and PPC’s in each constituency within our region. Next we have round tables with both Jon Pearce, Labour PPC for High Peak and Helen Morgan, Lib Dem MP for North Shropshire.
If you would be interested in attending or hosting either a round table or farm walk for your MP or PPC, please do get in touch with Midlands Communications Manager, Natalie Oakes on 07753 574675 or email Natalie.oakes@cla.org.uk.
