CLA at the Westmorland Show 2024
The CLA North team will be out in force at this year’s Westmorland County Show (stand C 80) on 11 and 12 September.CLA Deputy President Gavin Lane is attending along with CLA Director North Harriet Ranson and CLA advisers on both days of the show. Members and guests are welcome to join us for refreshments such as tea, coffee or a glass of wine.
Wednesday 11 September
- 9am – 9.45am: Informal breakfast talk by Peter Knox, Land Use Adviser at the Forestry Commission on trees and water quality; riparian planting and; additional stackable payments under EWCO (England Woodland Creation Offer). Pastries, teas and coffees provided.
- 10am – 11am: Hear from CLA Charitable Trust beneficiaries. Paul Cambre, Head of Horticulture at Growing Well, a mental health charity and Kerry-Anne Carruthers from Susan’s Farm will both provide an overview of their activities and how the CLA’s Charitable Trust has enabled their projects. Teas, coffees and cake provided.
- 2pm – 4pm: CLA Deputy President Gavin Lane will welcome farmers and landowners for an open discussion on whether the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) is working for hill / upland farmers. What works, and what doesn't? Members and guests are welcome to share their opinions on this issue.
Thursday 12 September
- 11.15am to 12.15pm: Drop-in session with Defra’s Permanent Secretary Tamara Finkelstein; Programme Director for the Future Farming and Countryside Programme, Janet Hughes; and Rural Payments Agency CEO Paul Caldwell. Members wanting a personal 5 to 10 minute personal chat can register their interest by sending an email to henk.geertsema@cla.org.uk
