Westmorland Show 2023 - activities
The CLA North team & Vice President Gavin Lane will be at the Westmorland Show on 13 & 14 September - hosting a raft of activities.The CLA North team will be out in force at this year’s Westmorland County Show STAND C80) on 13 and 14 September. CLA Vice President Gavin Lane attending both days, and members are welcome to join us for refreshments such as tea, coffee or a glass of wine.
Wednesday 13 September
8am – 9.30am Breakfast roundtable with Janet Hughes (registration required)
We kickstart the morning with a breakfast roundtable, sponsored by the Forestry Commission, with special Defra guest speaker Janet Hughes who will reflect on the latest developments on agricultural transition with a focus on the uplands. The event will also include a Q&A session. Pastries, teas and coffees provided. Bookings are required for catering purposes and places are limited.
Janet's Q&A session will be followed by the Forestry Commission's Peter Knox who will speak on EWCO and woodland creation.
11.30am - 12.30pm CLA Women’s Network speaker event (registration required)
Jackie Clegg from the Farming Community Network will be joined by Cumbria Constabulary's Superintendent Sarah Jones to reflect on issues of importance and interest to women in rural areas. Members and guests will also be able to ask questions at this informal get together. Join us for a glass of Bucks Fizz or Elderflower Spritz!
2pm - 3pm Rural crime advice & drop-in hosted by Cumbria Constabulary
Members and guests are welcome to discuss any aspect of rural crime. Cumbria Constabulary will be present to give useful advice on preventing and reporting crime.
3pm – 4pm CLA Drinks Reception
CLA Vice President Gavin Lane will welcome guests to this drinks reception, kindly sponsored by GSC Grays. He will be joined by Guy Coggrove, GSC Grays’ Managing Director.
Thursday 14 September

2pm - 3pm Rural crime advice & drop-in hosted by Cumbria Constabulary
Members and guests are welcome to discuss any aspect of rural crime. Cumbria Constabulary will be present to give useful advice on preventing and reporting crime.
3pm – 4.30pm Architects' Surgery
Crosby Granger Architects’ Paul Crosby and Chloe Granger will offer 20 minute surgery slots to visitors interested in refurbishing or reconfigure existing buildings. Members can pre-book a one-on-one consultation by emailing rachael.clayton@cla.org.uk
4.30pm – 6pm Drinks reception
Closing the show activity with a drinks reception, kindly sponsored by Crosby Granger Architects.
