CLA Rural Adviser Jane Harrison joined Jane Percy, the Duchess of Northumberland on International Women’s Day to celebrate the work of a CLA Charitable Trust beneficiary, charity West End Women and Girls Centre. Supporting their work, the Duchess is now a patron of the charity.

The celebration took place at ‘Our Farm’, a smallholding in Northumberland which is leased from the National Trust where the charity hosts a variety of countryside activities such as learning about agroecology; foraging; planting hedgerows and trees; sowing and harvesting vegetables; cooking their own food; making dens; and looking after animals.

In 2023, the CLA Charitable Trust granted the Centre £5,000 to support the salary costs of a youth and community worker to facilitate activities on the Centre’s smallholding which benefitting around 321 girls and young women, aged 5 to 18, since the grant was made.
