Street vote development orders consultation response

CLA respond on street vote development orders.

Following royal assent of the Levelling up and regeneration act in October 2023, the Government launched a consultation seeking views on the detailed operation of street vote development orders. Street vote development orders proposed as a new tool that will give residents the ability to propose development on their street and vote on whether that development should be given planning permission. The CLA responded to this consultation with concerns. The definition of a street appeared to leave out the types of settlements found in rural areas and the proposals did not comprise a simple and easy process. For the CLA, enabling greater use of Rural Exception Sites, where landowners or their partners could develop new affordable homes would be a more suitable method to deliver housing.
