Tom Wedd has a wealth of rural experience and looks forward to meeting CLA members

Welcome to the CLA, Tom. What is your background?

I hail from an arable family farm near Cambridge. I have a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and an MSc Crop Protection from IACR-Long Ashton Research Station, University of Bristol. I have over two decades of rural, retail management and other work experience. Early in my career I worked for the farms departments of Strutt and Parker then Carter Jonas. I spent five years as Furniture Outlet Manager for the charity Christian Community Action in Reading. Latterly I worked for four years as a Research Officer for the Agriculture and Food Investigation Team in the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development at The University of Reading, principally working on their contribution to the Defra Farm Business Survey, with some ad hoc research and assistance with student teaching. During the pandemic, I have once again been with Christian Community Action, this time as a volunteer.

What are your thoughts on joining the CLA South East team in the new role of Membership Relations Manager?

I am very excited to join the CLA as part of the team in the South East. I’m very much looking forward to engaging with, getting to know, and working with members in the region to enhance their membership experience.

How can members contact you?

My mobile number is 07787 006502 and email address is thomas.wedd@cla.org.uk, and I welcome contact from members to help them get the most out of their membership.

What do you like to do away from work?

Aside from charity work, my other interests are listening to rock music, following the fortunes of Newcastle United FC and I have recently re-joined the gym after more than a year of Covid restrictions!
