Our President Mark Tufnell, Wales Vice-Chair Victoria Bond and Nigel Hollett Director Wales attended a St David’s day celebration in Number 10 Downing Street today along with other representatives of the Welsh business and wider community.
Unfortunately, the prime minister was unable to attend due to an overseas commitment in relation to the crisis in Ukraine but his Chief of Staff, the Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP welcomed around 150 guests to the event, all of who had a connection with Wales and the Welsh economy.
The Secretary of State for Wales, the Rt Hon Simon Hart MP further welcomed guests to the event and set out the importance of Wales to the UK economy, as well as the strong cultural links and the important role of the union of the United Kingdom. One of his first points was to stress the importance of agriculture, food and farming and the huge role this plays in all our lives.
The Secretary of State talked more broadly about Wales in general and the wide range of businesses and producers that contributed both to the event but also to society in general.
We had detailed discussions with some of the other stakeholders attending the event including Fay Jones MP, who chairs the House of Commons All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on farming.
We thank the UK Government for their hospitality.
